El Ancla: Saying Goodbye to Mallorca with Chill Out. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

After eating in Ca´s Busso, we went to the Marriott Club Son Antem Hotel, we had some promotional tickets to the Spa… but! We should be there before an specific time and we didn´t knew that, so, this should wait till our next visit!:D

We anyway gave a look to the place and you see… I had been in other Marriott hotels and, for example, the JW of Egypt seems to me to be the best hotel in Egypt, but this Marriott in Mallorca… well… I felt it so plastic… Cris told me that actually the cafetería is very nice, but I haven´t seen it, I just seen the Spa area and part of the gardens plus a small golf camp, and none of them made “click” to me. But we´ll see what I think next time I go there.

Going out fo the Marriott, Pochola led us to a very nice place: El Ancla in Ca´n Pastilla. You see, I do think sometimes what you first think is a bad luck what you really have is good luck, because if we would stay at the Marriot Spa as planned, we would lost to met this nice place but also a great sunset:

El Ancla is a pretty place for take something to drink… that also includes a good tea selection. It has 3 main different areas, very nice them all. I highly recommend this place.

I saw a group playing Jenqa, but I can´t tell you if they have games to lend you or if it was of the group.

After being at El Ancla we went to the airport and back to Madrid… THANK YOU SO MUCH CLUB SCRABBALEAR + FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR A GREAT WEEKEND!!

Ca´s Busso: the Best Restaurant of Mallorcan Food in Mallorca. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

Ok, this time the one that says so isn´t me but my friends of the Scrabbalear Club: in Ca´s Busso you get the best Mallorcan food of the island. Right now I just can confirm this due my experience in 3 places (Celler Sa Premsa, Ca N´antuna and this one), yes, definitely this was the best one. But you see… if I have to go to each restaurant to confirm it, I can sacrifice myself! XP

Its situated at the side of a road in Llucmajor, for us it was so easy to get there, but you see, Cris was driving and she knows it quite well, but searching info about the restaurant in internet, seems it´s not that easy to find, so better you to go with a GPS or well written the indications.

This is a countryside restaurant, for going with time to enjoy the Mallorcan food. It´s big, but it´s usually full, so better you to do a reserve. It has a restaurant and terrace areas. We were lucky, the weather was nice, so we ate at the terrace, covered by a ranch-style structure, with antique lamps hanging at various points. The views from the terrace are the countryside and the road.

The food was quite nice. Excellent relation between quality and price, in our case it was a bit less than 20 Euros per person and we even leftover a lot of Brut Rice! A real pity! It was so delicious! Here some examples of what they have at the menu and of what we had ordered:

And the restaurant info: Ca´s Busso: Carretera Cabo Blanco, Km 24, Llucmajor phone: 971123002

Walking in… Carrer de la Torre, Mallorca, Spain. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

After our unsuccessfull seeking of the phantom dog, P Chris showed us a charming little corner of Mallorca: the end of Carrer de la Torre. This is a small cliff overlooking the sea, obviously with a tower. From there you have great views of the beach, Cala Pi and Cabrera Island.

It seems that the tower of the cliff was built due pirate attacks at that area. Now the cove has a lot of visitors, no matter you have to climb a lot of steps to go out of there. The cliff has a lot of visitors as well, no wonder, you have great views and also the tower gives it a special touch. It´s also an area where most ships dock, so it's tempting to go and spend a while watching the creek, views, docked boats and tower.

A Curious Case: the Phantom Dog of the Road of Mallorca. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

We went out of the disco around 4 in the morning. Pochola´s home is not exactly in Palma, but in a complex close to Palma.

We were in the car, going to Pochola´s house and suddenly, Pochola, which was driving, tells us to look to the side of the road, a dog was walking there. Let me paint a better picture of the situation. Around 4 in the morning, road lit only by the lights of cars, which at that time the only car out there was ours, in the middle of nowhere, had no houses nearby, only vegetation… and there Pochola saw a Yorkshire walking beside the road ... also, very smart puppy, not going on the road itself, but on the curb next to the white edge that borders the road.

So, we were at 100 kms. per hour, I´m not sure, but not less than 80 for sure. Once she told us to watch it, we had already passed it, so not all of us seen it. Pochola asked us what to do and we realize that the poor puppy would be quite far away from its owners and a road like that is not was exactly the safest place for a puppy that small, I don´t remember who said we pick him up, but of course, it wasn´t the case of stopping wherever we were, first because there was no space in which to stop, but also because we had already went far away from the dog and stopping there should meant to walk for a while, in the dark; but also, we were still on the highway in the middle of nowhere and at those hours you don´t know in which state a driver could be, and yes, at the time we were "hunting" the puppy, several cars passed at a considerable speed. So, we moved to the next roundabout to turn around to find the puppy.

We all were on the alert of looking for the puppy, and yes, we found it. Pochola stopped, but this time the puppy was at the other side of the road… so, we went to the next roundabout to turn around again.

We went back and met him again, we stopped a little behind him, Curro, who was co-pilot, opened the door and began calling ... and yes! The dog came up to us! He stared us and as Curro moved to try to catch him ... he ran to the opposite side of the road! :( We had to turn around again!

We returned and stop the car a bit behind the famous dog ... and this time we didn´t even open the door and the dog ran off, again, why not, to the opposite of us... okay, no problem, to turn around again! : /

This time, when we found him, the puppy was already at a roundabout. Curro went out of the car and went to try to catch him… but the puppy run away again! Pochola in the meantime parked the car, the rest of us, Sil, Topo and I, went out of the car as well, we asked Curro where the puppy had gone to, he showed us a side road that ran from the roundabout and ... there we were! At about 4.30 am, on a road in the middle of nowhere in Mallorca, after a day of many different activities, looking for a Yorkshire that we didn´t know where him came from or how he got there, Pochola enlightening the road with the car lights, we all calling the dog as best we could and according to what we learned in our lives how to call a dog. Pochola went alone on the road, leaving us searching the puppy in the darkness, but she returned soon and we all concluded that the puppy had vanished without trace!

Of course, the jokes started immediately we started the search, but the one that came with the “so… had you already heard about the legend of the phantom dog at the roads of Mallorca? That one that appears at the middle of the road so late at night, arousing the tenderness of the drivers and then takes them to a secondary road to…” hehehe yes! That one was me! :P

So, well, after a while looking for the puppy and calling him, we decided to go back home, a bit sad thinking the pour puppy won´t survive there alone.

The next morning was our last day in Mallorca. Topo was the first one leaving. We took the breakfast and went to Cris, who lives very close to the airport. We were coming into the complex… and… can you guess who was walking so happily at the main street of the complex!? Yes! The puppy! Alone again! We can´t believe it! So, we saw him, talk a bit about if this could be the same one, you see, he was very alike and Sil says this one has the same red collar that the other one had. This time I was the one telling Pochola to stop, I´ll go to pick him up while they go to Cris and they should call me latter on to pick me up. But well, you see, from the moment we saw him, talked about the possibilities of this one being the same of the last night, I told Pochola to stop and she found the place to, we had already moved some blocks from him; so, when I finally was at the place, the puppy wasn´t there already. Of course I had walked along the street to one way and to the other one, also at the surroundings, nothing. Pochola left Topo at the airport. Sil and Curro came with Cris to pick me up; we had looking for the puppy at several streets of the neighborhood, but nothing. But well, in case it was the same puppy that would be strange because the complex of Christ was at least 15 Kms. away from the place we saw him the last time and he was going to the opposite direction… but well, in case, at least we knew he was ok. :D

The funny thing ... when we 4 were walking down the road looking for the dog, I recorded it on video, because I felt that was the kind of surreal that when you tell about to another one, no one believe you ... and don´t ask me how ... I can´t find the video! :(

So, it´s now an official legend, the legend of the phantom dog of Mallorca, that appears to the drivers at the middle of the road, so late at night, arousing their tenderness, makes them to do several laps trying to catch him but every time they almost catch him, he runs away to finally disappear and at the next morning he appears back in a place you won´t ever think he could be, disappearing again if you try to catch him once more. Warning! Don´t try to record video of what happened! Be sure mysteriously you´ll lose it! XP XP XP XD XD XD

Note: of course the conclusion about the legend is absolutely joke, but the rest, including that I can´t find the video, is absolutely real.

A moved night! Sunset, View of the Beach, Scrabble, Fair, Bingo and Disco ... All in one Same Night! Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

After visiting Fornalutx, we went back to Palma, with the sunset at our side.

Curro told Cris we haven´t gone close to the beach already and she, so nice, led us to a residential place, very quiet, in time to see a little before getting dark. She had lived there and it was Pochola´s way home. We saw the tourist part of Palma, already with the night lights.

We arrived at Pochola´s place, they were already there… and this was what we found:

So! As people say that in Rome, do as the Romans do ... we joined them! (And incidentally we also showed that you can put 9 people and a dog on Pochola´s sofa!) ;P

After a while, Graciela came as well and as if we would have a spring at the back and brain, once we heard the bell, the Scrabblers jumped out of the sofa to prepare the games. It was a matter of a couple of games, due Pochola had a lot of plans for us that night. From now on the survivors were Pochola, Sil, Topo, Curro and I.

Our first stop of the night was in a fair. We had seen it coming back from Fornalutx and seemed to be very lively, but maybe we arrived so late, or maybe it was due it was its first night… orwhoknowswhy! ;P The point is we were almost the only ones there and a lot of the attractions were already close for that night. Any way we played a couple of bingos, we ate some hot dogs and hamburgers, Curro tried to win an i-phone in a machine and Pochola and Topo got onto an attraction.

After the fair we went to a Bingo. Actually it was my very first time in a Bingo in Spain… and I should say I felt bored there. The people were so quiet and serious. The girls working there singing the Bingo numbers sounded like if they would be working in an erotic hot line… so we were joking saying “so, you know! If you want to flirt with a boy, you should tell him at his ear: ffffffffooooooouuuuuuuurrrrrrrr (in a very sexy way)” hehehehe So, we had being laughing of that… even Topo concluded that maybe the balls were done in China and who knows from where exactly this girl was taken them out! :P But actually for me the best part of the night was when Pochola was felting sleep at the table, so Topo told her to leave him the Bingo board and she very upset replied: “no, no, I can control!” The lady started to sang the numbers and Pochola was sleeping! So Topo took the board and checked her numbers till the game was more or less over, finally Pochola woke up again not really believing she had been sleeping! From then on, we make jokes to her about the “no, no, I can control!” hehehehe and I´m afraid it will be for the rest of her life! ;PP

We closed the night going to dance a bit, Spanish rock of the 80´s music. I think I knew just 1 of each 10 songs they played! And you know? I had bet in Guatemala we had a lot of Spanish rock of that period! :-O

Fornalutx: a postcard village. Walking in… Fornalutx, Mallorca, Spain. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

After the great lunch we had at Ca N´Antuna, we went to walk in Fornalutx. It´s a very nice village with narrow streets and many steps… better you watch it by your own!:

Here a bit of info about Fornalutx, from the web Mallorcaweb:

“Situated in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, in a spectacular valley that starts from the Puig Major and descends towards Soller, Fornalutx can be found, considered to be one of the most singular villages on Mallorca. Because of its extraordinary beauty and enviable state of conservation, Fornalutx has received different prizes and recognition. In 1983 it was awarded by the the Mallorcan Tourism Board the Silver Plaque for the defence and maintenance of the village. The same year the General Secretary for Tourism gave it the Second National Price for Towns embellished and maintained in Spain. And in 1985 it received the Premi Alzina from the GOB.

The history of Fornalutx starts over 1000 years ago, when it was an Arab property. The population of the area started after the Catalan conquest and the present church was finished in 1639. Until 1813 it depended on the Parish of Soller and in 1837 it became an independent municipality.

The charms of Fornalutx are uncountable. The stone streets and steps of the old centre, carefully adorned with many pots and plants; the ancient stone houses and the doorways wide open; the lush vegetation on the mountain terraces and the orchards where the famous oranges are grown... The architectural group and the scenery are so interesting, that it is even difficult to appreciate it completely. It is important to take note of the eves of the houses to see the painted tiles, of "Arab tiles", an ancient tradition that is explained on the web "Teules de moro a la vall de Sóller i Fornalutx ".

… To cope with the numerous visits that Fornalutx receives regularly, the village has a varied and select offer for tourist accommodation and restaurants.”

The place is really pretty. I do recommend to visit it.

After walking we went to drink something to the Café de la Plaza, relaxed, that day the village was almost empty, so we were alone at the square, talking… till the wind came to worried us! The weather expectation for that day was cloudy and raining, so, we decided to better go back to Pochola´s home… that doesn´t meant it was for resting! But! That will be part of my next post! :D

Ca N´Antuna: Dreamed Views! Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

We went out Sóller to Fornalutx. Pochola have done a reserve at the restaurant Ca N´Antuna.

As I mentioned, we were very lucky with the weather that weekend. While in the peninsula were storms, we enjoyed the blue skies and almost no wind. We were able to give us the pleasure of eating at the restaurant terrace which has fabulous views out to Fornalutx.

Again we tasted the delicious Mallorcan food, but it was fun seeing them to have name of plates bearing the word soup and then the plate is quite dry ... and rice plates that seem as soups! :D

We tried a little of everything and I liked it a lot, but the Majorcan at the table agreed that it wasn´t the best place to eat the best food Mallorcan, but clearly, the views of the place gave it an extra for which to go. I totally agree! As if I had been sitting there and then I'd got a burger from Mc Donalds! I would have been delighted! (No, I'm no fan of those burgers or that particular spot, that´s why I say this). But not bad either. Except that there are better places to go to eat Mallorcan food, I agree ... but those views!!! :D

Joana and Nuria gave us a demonstration of what appears to be an unofficial sport at Sóller: shot-effect seed of Sóller! ;P

Can Bell Esguard or Ses Torretes.Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

After visiting the exhibitions at the train station of Sóller, we continued walking around the city. Johana mentioned us a house with a different style and we went to watch it.

Soller train station.

Along the way we enjoyed the streets and again the view county yards in different houses like in Mallorca, leaving their doors open so that passersby will enjoy the view:

As we approached Bell Can Esguard, curiosity grew because the building is large and appears to be abandoned. We only could see it from outside and envy the view to be taken from inside.

I was intrigued with the history of the house, so I searched online, but sadly I found very little in Balears Cultural Tour:

“…where you will discover on top of a small mound the house of Can Bell Esguard, an unusual, unique building, which is surprising both in terms of its construction and its history; unlike the customary practice in Sóller, this house was built on the instructions of a French immigrant who settled in the town at the end of the 19th century. Can Bell Esguard was originally a fortified mill, renovated in 1898. Of note are the medieval and Mudejar decorative features, as well as the chrome plated ceramics and the turrets, which are commonly known as Ses Torretes.”

So, it mentions a surprising history, but no idea which one is it! :/

We finished our visit to Sóller walking thru it streets, going to the parking, we´ll have lunch in another place.

Miro Exhibition at the train station of Sóller. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

After visiting the church, taken by one of its sides, we went to the train station. A tram car is in front of the entrance.

At the same station is an exhibition dedicated to Miró. On 23 August 2008, the council appointed Joan Miro as adopted son of Sóller. Joan Miró was born in Barcelona, but his mother and grandfather were from Soller, so during his childhood he went often with her mother to Soller.

Here a view of our visit:

There also was an exhibit of ceramics by Picasso, just there we can´t take video. I also recommend it!

Parish church of Sant Bartomeu. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

We visited this church after walking in Carrer de Sa Lluna. We can´t see a lot from the inside, because they were closing, but what I saw was “son normal” comparing with the outside.

At its side is the Soller Bank, with similar design.

Information of the church and the bank from the web BalearsCulturalTour:

“In the Plaza de la Constitución, at number 22, dominating the square, stands the Parish church of Sant Bartomeu, a building erected in different stages of construction, evident in the various different remains that can be seen around it. The original church was built before 1236, undergoing various modifications throughout the centuries. On the side façade on the calle del Born is the old entrance to the medieval church, with a walled-up semicircular doorway; in calle de Joan Baptista Ensenyat, you can still make out a large Romanesque gabled window; and on the exterior, remains can be seen of the 16th century walled fortification, built as a consequence of the most devastating Turkish assault that the town of Sóller suffered in 1561. The interior still boasts very beautiful Gothic and Baroque altarpieces.

The church seen today is a Baroque structure (1688-1733), with an art nouveau façade designed in 1904 by the Catalan architect and Gaudí disciple, Joan Rubió i Bellver. The new façade starts from the entrance atrium consisting of three ogival arches, flanked by two angels sheltering the statue of San Bartolomé, patron saint of the city, and crowned by a staggered structure. The result is a façade of Neo-Gothic inspiration, with the greyish colour of the Sóller limestone catching your attention, with its rough or rustic treatment, giving the façade an interesting texture.

At number 21 of this square is the Bank of Sóller, which was built in 1889 in order to safeguard the capital accumulated by the emigrants returning from France and the Americas. It is the work of the same architect who designed the façade of the parish church, Joan Rubió i Bellver. The building was renovated in 1910-1912 with the same rustic treatment as the parish church façade, as if it were a continuation of that building. Distinctive features are the original design of the openings, the projecting double balcony in the style of Gaudí, the circular doorway and the meticulous ironwork on the windows in complicated curved forms.”

Walking in… Sóller, Mallorca, Spain. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

As I mentioned, this time we went to Sóller in a car and we enjoyed a lot the views. Once I Sóller, we left the cars in a parking and walk in the streets. Sóller is a nice, warm and full of life village. It was Saturday morning and we headed to the square that was full of people walking or sitting in the various terraces. There we joined a Pochola´s friend, Johana and her daughter Nuria, who are from Soller and made us guides. Xisco also arrived, with his wife Eva and Marta, his older daughter.

Even when the road trip is nice, the best way to go to Sóller is by train This was the way we done with Sil in 2004. It is longer, but with spectacular views. The train itself is old and of wood, that gives a magical touch to the tour.

The train leaves you at the midst of Sóller, which is small, so you can easly do the visit on foot. Then you can take a tram to the port. I was watching the train on the web and they have packages that include the train from Palma to Soller, the tram to the port and a boat trip, all for between 35 and 42 euros (depending on the hours when you take the train). I think it can be a very good idea for the next trip! : D

Continuing the story of our experience of 27 February, we really had a great time. Johana and Nuria were excellent guides. We spent a while walking along Carrer de Sa Lluna, a pedestrian street of shops, picturesque spot where Curro and I bought shoes, handmade, called porqueras. We were delighted them! : D

Here a video of part of our tour:

Again I was surprised about so many people leaving doors and windows open so that passersby can see the courtyards and in some places even the living room of their homes. Of course it shows that Soller is a very safe place! : D

Walking along the Carrer de Sa Lluna we found a lady who had the windows of his house open. It was a house at street level windows and fairly large, albeit with bars. We drew attention for a dog that was there, watching the street and we approached ... the lady came to talk to us ... a little better look at it in the video! : D

Playing the old serials game. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

Ouch! That we just played some Scrabble rounds and we went straight to bed, I said! :/

Weeeelllll… having that many posts was time to have some slip of this type!

So, no! I remind it as part of the Saturday night, but actually it also was on Friday night!

After dining we play a bit the old serials game. Pochola has thousand mp3s with old tv serials´ songs, from 80s´or something. The game was about creating 2 teams: of couse we did the classical females against males! ;P So, at the girls team we were: Cris, Claudia, Sil and I. At the boys one: Xisco, Topo and Curro. Pochola was the referee. Just that obviously the serials were mostly the ones famous in Spain, but just in Spain. Claudia and I during that period were she in Argentina and me in Guatemala. Sil came to Spain having 11 y/o so, ok, she had seen a lot of Spanish tv serials but not exactly of those years. So, the real true was that at that game the boys were playing just against Cris and Sil! :/

Cris showed us that anyway she can even play alone. How quick she is for saying the name of a serial with only hearing a couple of chords! :D But anyway the logical thing happened: boys won! :/

It was quite nice to see them all, how at some point of the game, when the serial in question was one of their favorites during their childhood ... they face changed at atll! They sang the song as if it had been a hymn, telling stories of those years. A great moment Pochola played some Abba songs ... and I can´t remember how or why, Cris, Pochola and Lola brought us the following:

And now yes, around 2 or 3 in the morning, as good kids ;P we went to sleep! The ones at Pochola´s home went to bed singing:

(This was a classical song for making the kids to go to sleep during the 70´s and 80´s in Spain and Latin America).

Scrabble Night with the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

After being at Capuccino San Miguel Xisco and Pochola left us just with Cris for a while. Xisco had to go to pick up Claudia and Pochola to move her car. They told Cris the place to take us.

We went walking, enjoying the county yards and the shops.

Once at the place suggested by Pochola and Xisco… we wondered about how long time ago would be the last time they went… or maybe the point was that they haven´t gone at that time before (it was around 18.00)… because it was a seedy bar, but well, just a seedy bar wouldn´t be a problem actually, but you see, also happens there were just kids with only 16 years or so, rather Gothic, with typical and normal attitudes of the kids this age. We sat anyway but I can imagine that our faces were a poem, but well, everybody was actually quite peaceful and in any case we were the ones not fitting there.

They actually ignored us and we appreciated that. There we discovered there´s something called “gothic lolitas”. We being there for a while waiting Pochola but as far as she was coming late, we preferred to wait her outside.

When they finally came, we went all together to Pochola´s house. Very nice one btw, with a small pool, we also met there her puppy Lola.

We left our belongings in our rooms and… went to play! :D Scrabble, of course! After several rounds, we dine.

Pochola prepared a very delicious chilli, she had already talked us about it in Leon. When we finish the dinner, the visits went out and we all went to bed as good kids… the next day we´ll start early in the morning! :D

Capuccino San Miguel: the real coffee palace! Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

After eating at Celler Sa Premsa, Pochola and Xisco led us to Capuccino San Miguel. We went walking (no more than 10 minutes).

The curious part was that we were walking slowly, I was taking pics and videos of the places I liked and when I saw this place I liked so much and filmed the entrance, they were a little ahead of me. I caught them thinking it was a real pity not to go there. They were looking for an address and… yes! It was this! :D

The cafe is in an eighteenth century palace. The building is beautiful and has managed to decorate it with such good taste that only to see it, it´s worth entering. When you arrive in the middle of the main room you get a tray of samples of their cakes. Marble tables in the main hall, some stairs that take you to a small section with a few more tables

We sat right in the space under the stairs and the menu, for a coffee and tea fan like me, was like opening a book of poetry. From evocative names to classics as the expresso, all sounded so good for me. A pity that we had ate a lot in Celler Sa Premsa! The menu of sandwiches and cakes was also so tempting. We must go again! ;P

The music, chill out, was the apotheosis of the moment. Yes, as I explained on other occasions, when I'm in a place whose beauty I get through all the senses, often I feel that instead of walking I´m levitating. This time I was sitting but levitating as well!

Here Cris joined us, she´s also part of the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear. I didn´t know her yet but during that weekend we became friends.

We were there for a while enjoying the place and our beverages. I went to the toilette and… the icing on the cake! In the corridor just before entering the bathroom they had a sample of their music in CDs! They also sell them! No, I did not buy any, but the temptation is big and they also have them for sale on its website. :D

I also discovered it also has a courtyard with a fountain in the middle which should be great for spring time. It's totally different atmosphere.

Here the video:

I definitely will go back there! And I will go to the one that they will open during this spring! This will be located in the Paseo del Borne, which will be decorated by Michael Smith, who was commissioned to redecorate the White House for Obama (yes, yes, I mean the Obama that occupies the White House!)

A pity not to have one of those in Madrid!

Eating in Celler sa Premsa. Visiting the Club Scrabbalear!

Pochola had reserved a table at Celler Sa Premsa. The food and the decoration of the place is very traditional, with a bullfighting touch.

We started to delight with the delicious Mallorcan food. If it would depend on me, I would do a tasting menu with what everyone took! ;P It was around 14.30 and Xisco, a Scrabble Club Scrabbalear member, came to join us. I use to play with him on tourneys.

We had been there, eating, talking and laughing for a while. As far as I had taste a bit of everything, I could tell I liked all, but in case I would go back there, I´ll defenetely would ask for the Fideua… a great one!

Udo Walz. Visiting the Club Scrabbalear!

Just right in front of Rialto we found an Udo Walz hair salon. Pochola told us it was the typical place that just due the name they had high prices, but you see, watching the prices again I could tell you would find similar or even higher prices in Madrid without being a big name hairdresser.

I had search in internet and yes, seems to be a very famous hairdresser (watch out! I never said that he himself is in Mallorca cutting hair! He has a chain for hair salons and one of them is in Mallorca.) Just it seems to be 100% focused on German clients, because his web and even the services menu of this salon in Mallorca, are fully in German, not even English translation.

He seemed to have clients as Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Marlene Dietrich, Plácido Domingo, Maria Callas, Demi Moore, Jodi Foster, Andie McDowell, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron y modelos para marcas como Estee Lauder bu! In his salon in Belin or at the suits of their hotels! :D

Rialto Living: Glamour in each corner. Visitng the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear.

Walking in Mallorcan streets, we saw a window telling us “come inside!” ;P It was Rialto Living. I just love the concept! It´s a bit difficult for me to give a category to this shop, due it has from cloth to art articles, books, a cafeteria and even a space for art exhibits. Everything with quite good taste! Of course the prices go accordingly, so, a bit expensive.

But my very favorite was the fitting room! You see, I liked quite a lot of things there and thanks God I had the perfect excuse for not to buy anything: “my bag is so small” ;P hehehehe… like I said, from all my very favorite place was the fitting room… we concluded that no matter what you fit on there, you´ll see glamorous yourself! :D watch it by yourself:

The curios part was that Pochola didn´t know this place.

The store is placed where Rialto cinema was… but I better let the owners to tell you this part:

“Founder is Klas Kall, also one of 3 founders and designer of the GANT brand. Co-founder is Barbara Bergman who also works as a grafic designer.

The building was built in the 15th century, and in 1928 they built the theatre Rialto in what used to be the old gardens. Later on it was turned into a cinema.

In July 2007 Rialto Living opened it doors for the first time and now converted into a lifestyle store. Approximately 800 square metres full of fashion, furniture, books, gifts, accessories, art and a Café in Carrer Sant Feliu 3c, Palma de Mallorca.”

And here their presentation video, as far as I wasn´t allowed to continue filming:

Walking in… Palma de Mallorca, España. Visiting the Scrabble Club Scrabbalear!

We met Topo in a terrace of a restaurant at Parc de la Mar, with views to the olimpic port and to the cathedral. We started the walking right there, we found an craft fair with a lot of interesting food.

We continued the walking at the most emblematic streets of Palma, with calm, giving us the time for discovering it by our own.

I started to enjoy the nice Mallorcan habit of opening their gates so that passersby can admire the wonders of the courtyards.

There are a lot of foreigners´ shops with, we´ll say… hem… curious concepts? An example was the place Matarraz that was very strange from outside, but inside it was surrealistic at all. Starting with the owner that can´t even reply our greeting when we entered. The place was so small and I´m not sure if it was a cafeteria? A bar? Well, something a bit strange at the way is always something to appreciate hehehe. ;P
